Sometimes it’s nice to know just a little about who you are staying with, so very briefly:I’m Karen (the short one) – born in Paignton – grandparents and then parents owned the Post Office on Paignton Harbour, so a proper red-zoiler Paigntonian (so-called because of the area’s red soil). I can trace one side of my family back to Thomas Jackman, born 1640 in Throwleigh on Dartmoor. Worked in banking, Further Education and local government until March 2005 when I achieved my ambition – total change of career and I became a B&B landlady.

Joan (the tall one) – a Geordie, but came to Torbay in 1972 and has since lost any trace of a Northern accent. Joan has worked in hotels for 30+ years so is the one with the experience of what needs doing to ensure guests enjoy all aspects of their stay. If you hear singing from the kitchen whilst you’re munching your cornflakes, that will be Joan – she’s the frustrated Barbra Striesand.

So, enough about us – on to Paignton and the local area …
